Calabash Fried Shrimp

You'll swear you're done. You won't be.

Lightly breaded, never heavy-handed — the coating cracks, the shrimp stays sweet. It's the plate this dining room runs on, and the one your table will fight over.

Our story

Calabash isn't a flavor. It's a way of doing things.

Down the coast in Calabash, they figured out that good seafood doesn't need much: a thin cornmeal dredge, clean oil, and somebody watching the fryer like it matters. We've been doing it that way on West Market Street since 2006.

High ceilings, a brick fireplace, oars on the wall, and enough tables that the after-church crowd and the Friday-night crowd both fit. Navy, white, and teak — quiet nods to the coast, no fishing nets stapled to the rafters.

What locals say

Johnston County doesn't hand out compliments cheap

“

We keep forgetting to just order one plate and split it. Every single time. The portions are enormous.

Marcus T. · Clayton

“

Coastal without being hokey. Navy, white, teak wood, oars on the wall — and shrimp that actually taste like shrimp.

Denise H. · Smithfield

“

Took twenty-two people for my mother's birthday in the back room. Not one plate came out late.

Renae B. · Selma

“

My husband orders the ribeye and eats half my shrimp. Been happening for nine years.
